Sid says he's here to stay
31 Jan 2010 | Siddharth | Prathna

South Indian star Siddharth, whose last Hindi film was Rang de Basanti, says he is all set to make a transition to Bollywood.

His first Hindi film in four years, Striker, is about to be released and he says he is here to stay this time.

"I have seen success, stardom and box office hits. And I didn't want to be a guest in the Mumbai film industry after seeing all that as a solo hero in the south. Striker is an attempt to show the Hindi audience what I can do," he says about his forthcoming film.

"If you like me in Striker, you should watch all my films from now on. There won't be any more four-year gaps. I am planning my next Hindi film right away," he says, hinting that something is in the pipeline.

Male stars from the south often try making their mark in Bollywood, but not many have succeeded.

Actresses from the south, however, have made it big in Bollywood. Starting from Vaijayanti Mala to Rekha, Jaya Prada, Hema Malini and even Sridevi, their examples are many. Even Asin is a hit in the Mumbai industry.

But Siddharth, with his female fan following, could be a different story.

Siddharth - The movies I loved growing up.
30 Jan 2010 | Interview, Siddharth | Prathna

JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR: I still recall the debate this film had sparked off among my group of friends. It released around the same time as Khuda Gawah which starred Mr Bachchan. So it was a toss-up on which film to watch.

But ultimately, we settled for Jo Jeeta... as it was youth-centric and appealed more to us at that age. That school atmosphere and those cycling scenes were something we could relate to. And to think much later in life, I was to act with Aamir Khan in a film!

CITIZEN KANE: Though the film was made decades ago, it still appeals to me. I saw it as a teenager and found it mindboggling. It was up there and still remains a film for all time for me as well as for others. The Orson Welles movie was terrific and it was a film I viewed over and over again during my teenaged years.

KAGAZ KE PHOOL: This movie I watched because of my mother. She'd make me watch all types of film with her. I was introduced to Guru Dutt at an early age that's when I was told what a genius filmmaker he was. The movie had a deep, dark subject yet I remember it all including its haunting music.

NAYAKAN: This Tamil film starred Kamal Haasan an actor we adored as kids. He was in the movie and that was it. We just had to watch the movie and marvel at his brilliance something I continue to do.

ET: Steven Spielberg just had the right mix of stuff to appeal to the youngsters. A group of Earth children and an alien it left me bewildered about life beyond Earth something which I had not imagined.

I would've loved to do Aamir's role in 3 Idiots - Siddharth
30 Jan 2010 | Interview | Prathna

I don't believe in wish lists of directors and actors. I want to do good films based on good scripts. And anyways, when you've started your career in three industries with Mani Ratnam, Aamir Khan and Prabhu Deva, who needs wish lists! I was busy consolidating my position as an A-list star in Telugu. Simultaneously, I was looking for a deserving follow up to Rang De…. I hate being slotted or typecast, so I was also busy turning down many films. That's four years justified, right?
